A Problem Solved!

The way I used to setup my pedals was always springs on both pedals, even on double pedal setting. Now it has come to my attention, that it actually causes the slave pedal to slightly backlash during the momentum of a hit. And that it actually would be against the laws of nature if it wouldn't. I just never did the math..

Anyway take this piece of information with you, take it from Mats Lindeqvist from SMI Music: On double pedal settings, both springs on main pedal makes a world of difference. Now I know some of you guys already know this, but for me... well I quess better late than never huh? ;)

Now, I have some updates on my pedal settings for you. Here we go:

Footboard Height Adjustment: slightly lower than default
Beater Stroke Adjustment: 'finesse' setting, this might change...
Beater Angle: slightly under the default markup
Duo-Deck Longboard: set to shortboard
Direct Link Adjustment: back for power
Beater Height: default
Spring Tension: 75%

Pantera: Becoming bass drum pattern by Raikku

I finally got my wooden beaters for the Demons. I needed to slightly adjust the spring tension higher to compensate the differences in weight between the felt and wooden beaters. I also added a small gadget to the head used by one of my favourite drummers in the scene Vinnie Paul; a coin. It's taped to the head where the beater hits it, to give the bd a nice clicking sound... Like a natural triggering if you will. And since we're talking about Vinnie 'The Electric Stepdancer' here, I decided to pay tribute by playing the pattern from the song 'Becoming' by Pantera. It's also an illustration on how I'm gonna pull this off at the Dimebag Beyond Forever 2009 tour. I decided to follow the masters footsteps.

Hola people,

so.. it's been awhile since my last update, but what the hell. Here's what's been going on:

We had a show with Norther at Helsinki Virgin Oil Co 25th of June, so it was the first show with the Demons. My technician built the kit and set the pedals long before the soundcheck and i was a bit worried about this, cos he had never seen the Demon's before.. But fear not, everything was set and ready to rock as i arrived.

So the gig was a success, pedals worked great with the settings i posted earlier, no changes. After this show i've been a bit sloppy with practicing, but i will fetch the pedals home from our lair asap, so i can get on the testing again!

Some video material will be available sooner or later (as i get to put it together), since i filmed the whole Norther show, and yes.. Foot-cam included! ;)

Raikku's current settings

Here's a few settings I've been through so far:

1.) Default factory settings (of course),
2.) same, but changed to two longboard singles,
3.) changed the Beater Stroke Adjustment to power feel and tightened the springs about 10%.

Now I feel pretty confident about the current settings, although I'm not 100% sure if it's heel-toe friendly... for me at least. But Heikki promised to help me with it, as he has the know-how.

First tryout on acoustic kit

Allright,

i finally got time to get my ass to our rehearsal lair during weekend. Unfortunately due to family party at our place i didn't have as much time as i wanted to. Basicly i was at the rehearsal lair only for the band practice and that's it. Anyways i had some time to try our a bit different configurations.

As expected, the feel of the pedal changed completely, when i started pounding a real kit. On electronic kit, there's so much rebound on the pad, that it easily lies a bit on behest the pedals.. :)

Anyways, as the pedal didn't response as quickly as with the my TD-20's, i decided to tighten the springs a bit (a few rounds only). The pedal felt a bit better after this ofcourse, but there was still something i didn't like.. My seat height is a bit lower on my acoustic kit, than it is with TD-20's, so it felt like the pedal subside a bit too much towards the floor, so i decided to heighten the pedal board just a bit, maybe only 1mm away from the markup that it was before. After this i moved the beater a few clicks closer to the drumhead, to achieve the same beater distance i had before.

The change was pretty big afterall, when only these few little adjustments were made.. Not bad! So, the Demon Drive's survived the first band practice!

I must say.. The strokes are a lot more accurate, A LOT powerful and sharp than they were before.. It feels like the beater hit's the drumhead before i even think of kicking!! P-3002D's are also so freakin' smooth that it amazes me every time i'm playing! Now i need to use much less power when playing, to get exactly the same power as with P-2000B's (i like to think that bassdrums have to get KICKED.. so no any balletic fondling for me please..) so i reached maybe like 30% more stamina!!

Aaaand..... They indeed are WICKEDLY fast.... There's no way i could have pull off the same speeds with my old Eliminators, as i can now.. The P-2000B just felt like it could not response fast enough for my heeltoe with 16th notes at around 255-260 bpm speeds - also the power....... Not saying that it could not be done at all, but atleast for me - not!

To all this, i'm adding: It took for me around 1 minute to make two IDENTICAL single pedals out of the doubles, and this contains the time i spent learning how to do it, and dismantling the left post from the main pedal... So, if someone's saying that it's too complicated, slow or too much work, they are fabulists!! ;)

Sorry didn't have any time to film a videos or anything, but hopefully before next band practice then! :) That'll be this sunday, due to midsummer day-off's on Thursday, Friday and Saturday! :)

Pearl Eliminator P3002D is here!!

At last the long impatient wait is over..

On 9th of June i finally received my pair of new Pearl Eliminator P3002D's! The anxious feeling finally got set free after i got home with my new pedals.. I must say, that after the first try-out with my electronic kit the pedal instatly felt better than any other pedal i've tried so far. Eliminator Demon Drive sure is over all my expectations and therefor the best i could have ever expected!!

The settings at the pedal are pretty much the default factory settings.. Only minor changes here and there.

My current settings:

Footboard Height Adjustment: pretty much way up, so that the joint appreciates a bit towards drumhead
Beater Stroke Adjustment: way up for lighter feel
Beater Angle: one markup below the factory default
Duo-Deck Longboard: set to longboard
Direct Link Adjustment: front for more finesse
Beater Height: factory default
Spring Tension: around half-way

So these are the setting i've been using now.. I'll definitely try to get out the best that this pedal has for me to give, so this "test driving" woun't stop here!

So, it is obvious by now.. Pearl has launched it's all new Eliminator pedal that can convert from shortboard to longboard about 3 months back.. Now it is time, to present this amazing award-winning brialliance of design to you all! Demon Drive will hit the marke in June-July!
